“Spooky Pub” is my coin for this spot… hidden on an undesirable stretch of Lower Clapton Road in Hackney, you would totally miss it if you weren’t looking carefully. The lovely host Edina seats you into a wooden booth which reaches up to a stunning stained glass ceiling which blankets the whole pub. I would not be surprised to see the Adam’s Family having their Sunday Roast here. The bathrooms are incredibly cool- worth going just to stumble down the stairs to be in the middle of it. Trust me. The bread hails from the glorious E5 Bakehouse and the menu is French Parisian, with a focus on meat. I like the blend of Paris chic meets London Pub. The chef is from Moro, Oly Launcy, and he keeps things clean and elegant, quite similar to his roots. My favorite, although quite a slim dish, was the home-cured sea trout with dill. The cod deserves an honourable mention. Admittedly I was more impressed by the style and the host, but the food has time to develop and catch up to it’s uber cool setting.

A great place for a romantic spooky date…
