Kefir, Dead Sea Mineral, and Yoghurt Facemask

I have my kefir every morning and sometimes I make a little extra for topical skin purposes. Also, if my kefir mushrooms get sick, I use thick organic whole milk as opposed to organic soy milk, which generally brings them back into orbit (please see kefir article if interested…). However, I find the whole milk quite heavy so I don’t eat much of it which leaves me with a huge amount of kefir, which I feel is sacrilegious to throw away. So I decided to start making these face masks which I do consecutively for five days either before or after work and my skin becomes INCREDIBLE. Soft, bright, smooth, and even. Its all the live bacteria and enzymes that sort of eat up the top layer of your skin, as well as bringing back a balance of good and bad bacteria onto your skin, which with an urban environment and make-up, can be a really helpful. This mask is also great for acne- totally clears the skin up. There is a great product out there I buy at my local drugstore, it is a dried seaweed mud mask, which is pure dead sea minerals. The brand I use is called “Algimud Active Seaweed Mask” and it is made by a company called Dead Sea Spa Magic. It is normally a peel off mask (which is great too) but I find it helps to bind this recipe together and allows the kefir (which can be a bit drippy) to stick to your skin a bit better. If you can’t find this product, any mud mask will do.

INGREDIENTS

¼ cup Kefir (homemade or storebought)

3 tablespoons Sheep’s Milk Yoghurt

1 tablespoon Algimud Active Seaweed Mask (or any dead sea mud mask will do)

Mix the above ingredients into a well sealed jar. Refrigerate one hour. Put a thick layer all over your face and let it dry, about 30 minutes. Rinse. The live bacteria in the mask die off as each day goes by (therefore the mask becomes less active) but the mask will generally last about a week. Use consecutively each day for the best results.
